Mt. Elmira's Manna on the Mountain

By Kelsey Walls & Tina Green September 8, 2016

We really appreciate the opportunity to tell you about our Manna Luncheon that is offered at our church, Mt. Elmira Baptist in Shepherdsville, once a month. We feel extremely blessed to be able to offer this outreach to our community.

Our Why:

Grandma always said "if someone feeds you that means they love you." There is no better way to show your love than to bless someone with a full belly. As said in the Bible:

John 13:35 KJV “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”

Matthew 7:12 KJV “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.”

Matthew 25:35-40KJVFor I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”

I can only pray that if I ever need help someone will help me out of love and not pity. I can't sit at my full plate knowing there are starving people men, women and children and do nothing.

Reason for Starting:

I went to a meeting where they said we have over 300 children in our public school system that do not have a permanent address. Many of those children only eat when they go to school. So, if they are not eating at home, then their families most likely are not either. We wanted to try and do what we could to change that for them.

Our Hope:

We hope the people we serve see Christ in what we do. That they see love on each smiling face they encounter and know that they are not alone. Most importantly that they know they are loved not just by us, but our Lord and Savior.

What It Involves:

The second Saturday of each month we cook and serve a meal to people in need. We offer and provide clothes, hygiene products, a food pantry, and a shower. We sit down and talk with them to see where we can be a help, and we do everything we can to make sure everyone leaves refreshed, happy and satisfied.
